Saturday Circles
Jun 16th, 2010 by Wendy

I found this mystery item at The Big Sale in Medford, buried on the kitchen gadget table, on sale for 12 1/2 cents. Hey, it was half-price day.

I photographed it against a placemat, to show off the stainless steel sheet with holes in it.

On the back a sticker said “Made in Korea”, so this must be a finished item, not an orphaned part of something else.

I don’t usually buy things “on speculation”, but I just had to speculate about this. What is it? Who owned it before me? How old is it? What will I do with it? When will I put it in a garage sale?

Circles are everywhere…everywhere I tell you! But sometimes they are fleeting. While spring has sprung in other places, we still have below freezing temperatures, snow or frost in the night.

By noon it can be “shorts weather”Nails in SnowDble Nails (if you wear shorts when it’s in the 40’s and 50’s).

Red Bowl, detail

While working on my third book, “fast, fun & easy Incredible Thread-A-Bowls”, I had to shop for objects to use as molds. I found this online, and I had to have it.

We use it to collect outgoing mail. It’s about 16″ in diameter and 4″ deep and heavy: it’s enamel covered metal washers and disks.

Sewing Room Planets

Friends and family know about my ongoing circle obsession. As an experiment, I’m going to post a new circle composition each Saturday: the Saturday Circles. Whether found in nature, put together with objects easily unearthed in my house, or created in fabric, we’ll see what comes of it.
